Microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of rotary friction-welded dissimilar AISI 431 steel/AISI 1018 steel joints

چکیده

Abstract The main objective of this study was to analyze the microstructural characteristics and strength performance dissimilar AISI 431 steel/AISI 1018 steel joints developed using rotary friction welding. different regions rod-to-plate were analyzed optical microscopy. tensile properties microhardness evaluated assess joint performance. distribution across cross-sectional region recorded correlated with failure. Scanning electron microscopy used fractured specimens. Results showed that exhibited a 650 MPa, yield 452 % elongation 18%. weld interface (WI) higher up 515 HV 0.5 . grain growth resulting lower hardness in heat-affected zone (HAZ) are mainly responsible for failure HAZ only. superior greater evolution finer microstructure WI zone.
